Spousal and Family Sponsorship
The spousal and family sponsor program allows spouses and children who wish to be sponsored by their Canadian spouse, partner, or parent to become a permanent resident in Canada and potentially citizens afterward.
You can sponsor certain relatives to come to Canada if you are at least 18 years of age and a:
Canadian citizen or
Person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act or
Permanent resident of Canada.
And you must be able to:
Support them financially
Make sure they don’t need social assistance from the government.
Other things you should know about:
There are different eligibility criteria for the sponsor and the sponsored person and applications can be done from within Canada or from abroad depending on the situation.
If they become permanent residents of Canada, your spouse, partner, or dependent child can live, work or study in Canada.
